Evaluating accuracy of Tympanic Thermometer with and without plastic probe used in sanction period in the triage of patients abstract
Introduction: Vital Signs assessment is one of primary steps in physical examination andpatient-care (1-3). Body Temperature (BT) assessment is also part of these examinations andaccurate result of its measurement in comparison to Core Body Temperature (CBT) throughless-invasive methods instead of accurate invasive measurements makes wide range of toolsfor the purpose available In Tympanic thermometers, Commercial cover probes are therecommended solution of the medical instrument industry for avoiding infectious spreading;while their higher expense and Iran's import restrictions due to Iran's economic and politicalsanctions limits the use of probes in day care (4-7). Researchers need to find another alternativeand low-cost solution for this problem while they find this problem in one of their researches. Methods: we searched for different materials and came into commercial plastic examinationgloves. To evaluate the thermometer’s accuracy through this new material it’s measurementsfor 332 healthy cases been analyzed.Result: 332 students collaborate in this study. Age of students was 20 to 25, half of the studentsin the study was male. The average temperature of the participants first step was 36/166 ± 0/374°C, in second step was 36/171 ± 0/355 °C and third step was 36/163 ± 0/347 °C. No significantstatistical difference seen between original cover, cover with plastic examination glove anduncovered cleaned with alcohol swap (P-value= 0.538)Conclusion: Evaluating accuracy of Tympanic Thermometer with and without plastic probeused in sanction period in the triage of patients As we are in Sanction this study demonstratesan easy and cheap way for body temperature assessment and no difference found. Therefore, with this method can be easily used in triage of patients such as patients with corona (covid19)in hospitals without the risk of transmission of infection.
