Binary Opposition of “Father & Son”: Reference to Paul Auster’s The Invention of Solitude abstract
In his novels, Paul Auster explores many themes that are contrasted with each other. This is known as binary opposition. “Father & Son” relationship is one of such contrasting pairs which is illustrated in Auster’s The Invention of Solitude. Here, the writer remembers the memory of his deceased father and the chilly relationship with him. This study aims at investigating the negative effects of loose family relationship with reference to the selected work of Paul Auster. The researcher makes use of descriptive method in order to analyze the selected literary text. To conclude, Paul Auster crafts an intensely intimate work from a ground-breaking combination of introspection, meditation and biography. He urges the couples to know their responsibilities in raising their innocent children. Parents must provide for the material and spiritual welfare of their children. They should try to inspire their children by their own exemplary lives and must never neglect to correct their faults.
