Assessment of the Treatment Regimens Adherence in Type۲ Diabetes, Zanjan ۲۰۱۵

Background and Objective: Type ۲ diabetes is a metabolic disease which could be prevented using a healthy lifestyle. Non-adherence to treatment regimens in diabetes is still a public health problem, globally. This study was conducted to determine the treatment regimens adherence in Type۲ diabetes in Zanjan, ۲۰۱۵. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on ۳۸۵ Type ۲ diabetes patients. Data was collected using International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and researcher-made questionnaire for diet and drug adherence. The validity and reliability of questionnaires were assessed in good level, through conducting a pilot study. The data was analyzed using SPSS. Results: The analysis was conducted on ۳۸۵ patients who had the mean age of ۵۴.۹ years. The majority of patients were female (۵۶.۴%) and married (۸۰.۵%). Most of patients were non-adherent to treatment regimens recommendations (۷۶.۹% for physical activity, ۵۰.۴% for diet, and ۵۲.۵% for medication). A significant association was found among gender, employment status, underlying disease and educational level with non-adherent patients to physical activity recommendations (P<۰.۰۵). A significant association was also not found between marital status and diet recommendations (P<۰.۰۵). The level of HbA۱C was significantly associated with self-reported adherence to the treatment Regimens (P<۰.۰۵). Conclusion: There was a very low adherence with treatment regimens recommendations. Therefore necessary strategies are necessary to prevent severe complications of diabetes and achieve a better control.
