Abstract:
Anxiety as a psychological factor aaffects educational achievement and many researchers believe that language anxiety influences language learning. This paper aimed at investigating foreign language anxiety level among high school students in Iran. It also aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety and language proficiency in the Iranian high school students. In order to explore this issue, translated version of FLCAS questionnaire was administered to ۸۰ high school students. The results revealed that Iranian high school students had high level of anxiety. The highest provoking causes of students' anxiety were worrying about consequences of baing failed and teachers' attitude. The analysis of the variables related to foreign language anxiety revealed asignificant negative correlation between language anxiety and language proficiency.
