Management of Relations in Class-ridden Societies:Reference to E.M.Forster’s Selected Novels abstract
Many societies are divided into layers whose members have various accesses to resources and power. The novels of E.M. Forster are the products of liberal bourgeois culture. In his novels, Forster investigates cultural clashes, class stratifications, women suffrogation, religious orthodoxy and industrial excesses from the human angle. His selected novels are characterized by a synthesis between body and soul, the real and the ideal, the inner and the outer life. This study is meant to remove the gaps between the experimental realities and the didactic moralities in the contemporary chaotic world. To conclude, Forster urges his readers to manage class conflicts in order to reach satisfactory human relationships. Indeed, public life should mirror whatever is good in the life within. However, the pursuit of culture as an end in itself is one of the worst of perversions.
