Abstract:
This research aims to determine the impact of virtual social networks on English learning. Among various social media, one of social media tools which play an important role in learning and developing English is Skype. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of using Skype in English learning speaking skills and to compare it with traditional method of teaching language. In this study pre -test and post-test design with control group and experimental group was used. All participants were chosen from language institutions. Students in experimental group were taught by regular training method and by Skype, but control group of students were taught by normal teaching method without using virtual social network. Collected data was analyzed through descriptive statistics like Mean, Standard Deviation, and T-test by statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) program. In this study the treatment does NOT have significant impact on English oral skill through Skype application for students in the intermediate level.
