Comparison between Active Filter and Capacitor Bank for Resonance Stringency Reduction in Electric Railway abstract
This paper introduces harmonic resonance phenomena in electric railway systems. As we know, two compensation methods could be used in electric railway systems for reduction of resonance Stringency. Capacitor bank and active filter were used in these compensations. In this case, PSCAD/EMTDC software is used to analyze and study effects of each compensation method. For a good comparison between two mentioned compensation methods, the best results of capacitor compensation, optimal location for capacitor installation and optimal parameter are compared with active filter results. In active filter, a five-level inverter is used for a good tracking of reference current and lower voltage is used for its switching system. Finally advantages and disadvantages of each type of compensation method are presented in this paper.
