Abstract:

Increasing the speed of gas kicks is an important parameter in well control operations. The position of the gas kick determines the floor pressure; this point is usually the weakest point in the no cased part of the well. In this research, an accurate model for estimating the increasing speed of the gas kick is developed starting from the force analysis and mass conservation, and the acceleration of the gas kick is calculated. The temperature of the well is considered to increase the gas kick. Prior to the development of this model, estimating the position of a gas kick was usually based on experience, which is not an accurate method. The proposed model a new method with a theoretical basis to describe the increase in gas pressure in the well simplifies the well control method and helps drilling engineers control the kick more easily, so the proposed model is a valuable tool for diagnosing well control problems.
