Abstract:

Introduction & Aim Infertility is defined as not being able to get pregnant (conceive) after one year (or longer) of unprotected. The type of feeding from one generation and two generations to the next generation affects the fertility quality. It is speculated that genetically modified food (GMF)/genetically modified organism (GMO) is responsible for infertility development. The present paper highlights the role of GMF /GMO in infertility.MethodsIn order to investigate genetically modified food on infertility which have been studied to date, keywords including Infertility or genetically modified organism and genetically modified food was searched in the following databases: ISI, Pub Med, Science direct, Google Scholar, Scopus , Science direct, Iran medex and Magiran from ۲۰۰۰ to ۲۰۲۰ in which ۱۷ papers were evaluated.ResultsGenetically modified food (or GM food) is food produced from plants or animals whose DNA has been altered through genetic engineering. These genetically modified organisms are often called GMOs for short. GMF have been commercially available since the ۱۹۹۰s and are most often associated with fruits and vegetables. Genetically modifying a portion of food involves introducing a gene into a fruit, vegetable, or animal from another organism. Developing countries are the main market for transgenic products are produced in developed countries. Some studies show a Relationship between the use of transgenic products and infertility. GMFs/GMOs could be potential hazard on reproduction, linking to the development of infertility through influencing the endocrine metabolism, endometriosis. American Academy of Emergency Medicine advise infertile couples to stop using transgenic foods as much as possible.ConclusionConsumption of transgenic substances causes endocrine dysfunction and therefore infertility. Further studies are needed to examine the correlations between transgenic drug use and global or national fertility rates.
