Abstract:

In current study, improvement of separation properties of carbon dioxide and methane using composite membrane of polyether block amide/polyether sulfone and nanocomposite membrane of polyether block amide/polyether sulfone/magnesium oxide nanoparticles was investigated. The effect of magnesium oxide nanoparticle weight percent on Permeability and selectivity of pure methane and carbon dioxide was evaluated. Polymer/nanoparticle membranes were prepared using thermal phase separation method. Measurement of synthesized membranes Permeability was carried out using constant pressure-variable volume method. Moreover, membranes were characterized using FTIR and XRD methods. Results demonstrated that the presence of magnesium nanoparticles leads to lower crystallinity o membrane through interaction with amorphous chain of copolymer which results in improvement of transport of gases with polar molecules. Moreover, results of gas Permeability showed significant increase in Permeability and selectivity at ۳۰ C and ۸ Bar. Selectivity of carbon dioxide to methane was increased using optimum membrane (۱۵ wt% nanoparticles) in compare to membrane containing no nanoparticle. .
