Assessment of Vegetation Vulnerability Using Remote Sensing (Case Study: Namdan Plain, Fars Province) abstract

One of the most important ways to know the characteristics of each area is to study its vegetationcaver, thus, identifying the characteristics of vegetation cover can be a good way to separate areas from eachother. The aim of this study is to evaluate the vulnerability of vegetation cover in Namdan plain, in Farsprovince, using remote sensing. To achieve to this purpose, firstly, the average of Enhanced Vegetation Index(EVI) value of MOD13A2 product of MODIS sensor in April and May in the period 2001 to 2020 wasextracted and then Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) was calculated. In the next step, based on VCI,Probability of Vegetation Vulnerability Index (PVVI) was computed and vegetation vulnerability wasclassified. The results illustrated that the central areas of the plain, which are strip-shaped from northwest tosouthwest, had a higher probability of vulnerability. The north parts of the central areas, where agriculturallands are located in, had the least probability of vulnerability.
