Before interventional clinical studies in humans, researchers usually perform preclinical studies in vitro or in vivo to evaluate the initial efficacy, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of interventions. Sample size determination in animal studies is necessary both in terms of correct and scientific inference and in terms of ethics.
