Abstract:
In this paper at first a definition of metalanguage is provided and then two related articles are examined to provide some more concrete evidence on the effects of metalanguage use in teaching procedure. The first study shows a positive effect of metalanguage in reading and literacy on some of the students chosen from two schools in Australia. In the second instance the roles of socially constructed metalanguage and another variable in teaching was examined. In both cases results were rather positive on the role of metalanguage
