Simulation and Optimization of a Membrane System Designed for CO2 Capture of Flue Gas abstract

Membrane systems are one of the best techniques introduced to reduce CO2 emissions from industrial resources. Using membrane as separation equipment has gained much interest due to its obvious advantages, like low energy consumption and being environmentally friendly. We simulated a membrane process to investigate the feasibility of using a hollow-fiber membrane module and further to find suitable operation conditions and reach optimum capacity. Moreover, applying counter-current configuration resulted in great purity of CO2 stream of 99% and lower energy consumption. Moreover, the required surface area of membranes for reduction of 90% of CO2 content in the first and second stages decreased by 25% and 50% respectively
