Abstract:

Sleep disorders have a negative effect on disease outcome and quality of life in patients with chronic heart failure. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of factors affecting sleep disorders in patients with chronic heart failure and some factors affecting it. This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on three hundred and twelve patients with chronic heart failure based on Branwald diagnostic criteria from April ۷۱۱۲ to ۷۱۱۲. Data were collected using the Epporth Drowsiness Questionnaire (ESS) and the Sleep Quality Questionnaire (PSQI) at the Ahvaz Cardiovascular Clinic under the supervision of an Associate Professor of Cardiology with ۷۱ years of experience. Data analysis was performed by SPSS software and p <۱.۱۰ was considered as statistically significant. ۲۱۷ patients including ۱۲۲ (۰۲.۱۱۵) females and ۱۷۱ (%۱.۱۰۵) males participated in this study and most of them had a diploma or less. The results showed that there was no statistically significant relationship between gender and sleep quality level (P = ۱.۷۲۰) and there was no statistically significant relationship between patients' education level and their sleep quality level (P = ۱.۱۲۰). Office secretaries have less opportunity to assess patients' sleep disorders because of their direct contact with patients. Using sleep disorders questionnaires is an easy and cost-effective method, so to identify high-risk patients and referrals for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, more extensive tests should be performed, which can play an important role in reducing the negative consequences of the disease and improving quality of patients life.
