Abstract:
The use of Inverter-based distributed generations (DGs) have lately been of high interest by many researchers. Since DGs are often connected to the grid by power inverters, the role of inverter-based energy storage is of great importance in future power systems. If the capacity of inverter-based DGs increases, power system stability and performance will be substantially affected. The use of Synchronous Generators (SG) features, such as the kinetic energy stored in the rotor, damping effect, and droop characteristics, along with a proper control scheme, can be considered as a solution, namely Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG). This paper analyses a new VSG control scheme based on Adaptive Back-Stepping (ABS) method using Sliding Mode Controller (SMC), with cascaded voltage and current controllers to control parallel Voltage Source Inverters (VSI) in the microgrid. The proposed scheme benefits from several advantages compared to other VSG implementations and renders the system asymptotically stable. Several simulations are carried out in MATLAB/SIMULINK demonstrating the efficiency of the proposed approach
