Metal-Organic frameworks (MOFs) as catalysts for the development of green processes abstract

Two MIL metal organic framework materials with high stability were utilized as catalysts in the selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF) with tert-butylhydroperoxide (70% aqueous) as an oxidant in acetonitrile. MIL100 (Fe) exhibits more conversion (58%) comparing to MIL101 (Fe) under the same conditions. It appears that this specific material would open up a new pathway for MOFs towards the mentioned catalytic oxidation. DFF is a key chemical and can be used in organic synthesis and functional polymer manufacture.
