Relationship between Religious Attitude and Patience in Nursing and Midwifery Students in Shiraz, Iran, in ۲۰۱۵

Background and Aim: Medical sciences students experienced various stressors during their academic education. Considering the positive role of two factors, religious attitude and patience on studentschr('۳۹') mental health and based on limited studies on the relationship between religious attitudes and patience in nursing and midwifery students, in order to promote studentschr('۳۹') mental health against existing stressors related to education and presence in clinical environments, this study aim to investigate the relationship between religious attitudes and patience in nursing and midwifery students. Materials & Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed on ۱۳۹ nursing and midwifery students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in ۲۰۱۵. The Samples were selected by simple random sampling. Data collection tools included demographic characteristics form, Evans Patience Questionnaire and RAS-R Religious Attitude Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient by SPSS software (version ۲۲). Results: Based on the results of the study, the mean religious attitude was ۹۷.۲۱ ± ۱۵.۵ and the mean score of patience was ۴۵.۹۴ ± ۸.۹۹. There was no statistically significant difference between the mean religious attitude and patience based on demographic characteristics of age, gender, field of study, and marital status (p>۰.۰۵). According to Pearson correlation test, there was a significant relationship between the two variables of religious attitude and patience. (r = -۰.۳۴۳, p = ۰.۰۰۰۱) Conclusion: The results of this study showed that, the higher the religious attitude of students, the greater the level of patience. Therefore, promoting students’ religious attitudes may lead to their having more patience in patient care, the results of which will benefit the patient and the family and even the organization.
