Abstract:
In this paper, we optimized a magnetorheological (MR) brake in order to use as a vehicle brake system. An MR brake consists of several rotating disks immersed in an MR fluid and an enclosed di-magnetic stator. When current is applied to the electromagnet, the MR fluid solidifies as its yield stress varies as a function of the magnetic flux intensity that is applied. This controllable yield stress produces shear friction on therotating disks, and by this means, generates the braking torque. The goal of optimization is to introduce a feasible MR brake which produces required braking torque as well as satisfying geometrical constraints such as acceptable diameter in order to place in a wheel. One of the most important specifications of an automobile brake system is the total mass of the brake. First we introduce our proposed MR brake and designconsiderations for building an automotive brake are discussed. Then we will optimize this MRB in order to maximize the braking torque while minimizing its total weight. In this article, we will use genetic algorithmone of the most reliable optimization method- to optimize our brake parameters.
