Geometric correction of satellite images through rational function models abstract
The number of high-resolution satellite sensors for mapping applications is growing rapidly. One - meter earth observation satellites such as space imagining’s Ikonos system offer the photogrammetric and remote sensing communities a new significant means for precise geopositioning. Due to distortions on image and relief displacement from the perspective projection of an image, all features lean outward from the center of the image and aren’t in correct position.
In this paper, an Ikonos Geo product for ZAHEDAN city, south-east of IRAN, with area of 121 square kilometers will be tested by rational function for transformation of image space to ground space. It will be shown that sub-pixel accuracy can be achieved applying mathematical models
particularly with rational function model.
Then by geometric correction, satellite images promise timely and highly automated generation of two-dimensional and three-dimensional spatial information products.
