Abstract:
Literary works can be a mirror of the outside world, revealing to us our shortcomings both as individualsand a society. Encouraging inclusive, multicultural outlooks towards literature can help bring visibilityand representation for marginalized groups, whose entire existence can be otherwise concealed fromsight. Through Judith Butler’s theories, this study investigates how rigid definitions of what it means tobe culturally acceptable can be harmful to the community of the Romani gypsies who have enduredcountless sufferings throughout history. It tries to illustrate how enlightened storytelling can have asignificant role in revoking these harmful consequences
