Computational Simulation of SABALAN Geothermal Reservoir located at Northwest of Iran abstract

In this study, a 3-D simulation of the northwest Sabalan geothermal reservoir was investigated. The model was developed on the base of a geological model obtained from the analysis of the available field data. The Geothermal filed is modeled on a rectangular domain with dimension of 12 × 8 km and 4.6 km height, giving a total surface area of 96 km2. The domain was discretized to the 2595 non-uniform rectangular cells using integral finite difference method (IFDM). The model has 14 horizontal layers ranging in thickness between 100-1000 m extending from a maximum of 3600 to -1000 m a.s.l. Fifteen rock types were used in the model to assign different permeabilities from 1× 10-15 to 2.0 ×10-8 m2 based on the geological model. The results was achieved from Natural state simulation of the reservoir indicate acceptable agreements in temperature profiles with the experimental data which measured in the wells.
