The Role of Cultural Filter in Translation: Translation Quality Assessment of Aghasi’s Poetry of Shia abstract
Translation depends on different factors like customs, culture, and norms of the two languages. There are always some works of translation that have some problems, and mostly non-experts do them. The translation quality assessment that is a subsection of the translation studies can show the quality of the translation by comparing source text to its translation. The major objective of the present study is using Juliane House model (1997) to assess Jahandideh's English translation of selected parts of Aghasi's Poetry of Shia to find problems and mismatches between source and target texts to recognize covert and overt translations and cultural filters in the target text. For evaluating the translation, three hundred hemistiches are selected and classified as; Overt errors: not translated, a slight change in meaning, significant change in meaning, distortion of meaning, a breach in TL system, creative translation, and cultural filter. Covert errors are: author stance, medium, and participation. The results shows that the text was translated Overtly and This translated text transfers meaning and all features and concepts of the source text. The findings of the study show that House's model is proper for translation quality assessment.
