Abstract:
Achieving the goals of sustainability necessitate using high efficiency energy conversion technology. Bio-inspired energy systems are one of the main candidates to improve conventional energy conversion systems. Wastewater is suggested as an energy carrier, which is a potential source of chemical energy that can be recovered to high loading organic and low sludge production in anaerobic process. In this paper, industrial wastewater is used for production of biogas in septic tank. Produced biogas then is mixed with natural gas which is consumed in a typical gas turbine to generate electricity. Furthermore, carbon dioxide generated in the gas turbine cycle, is used for algae growth in the presence of sun irradiation. Techno-economic evaluations are performed to show the feasibility of proposed solutions. The results show the integrated bio-inspired energy system is economically preferable and can be used as an effective solution to reduce environmental impacts of fossil fuels.
