Abstract:

Background and objective: Food intoxication caused by Staphylococcus aureus containing enterotoxinproducinggenes is one of the most common diseases transmitted by contaminated food, which can beaccompanied by symptoms such as gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and vomiting. In recent years, poisoning andinfections transmitted by water and food have been one of the most important topics for researchers. Also, due to the disease, people in society demand sufficient knowledge and newer information about thecauses of infection, prevention, and treatment. Although the symptoms caused by enterotoxigenicStaphylococcus aureus are not dangerous, it is one of the serious concerns for public health all over theworld due to the occurrence of widespread antibiotic resistance. Therefore, the aim of this study is todetermine the resistance pattern of two common antibiotics (tetracycline and vancomycin) inStaphylococcus aureus samples isolated from raw chicken ready to be sold in stores in Babol city. Methods: In a cross-sectional study in the ۱۴۰۰, ۶۰ samples of raw chicken ready for sale in the shops ofBabol city were randomly purchased. After transferring the samples to the laboratory, they were culturedon differential and specific media, and then by performing biochemical tests including coagulase, thefrequency of Staphylococcus aureus was investigated. Finally, the antibiotic resistance of the isolatedsamples to tetracycline and vancomycin was also evaluated by the disk diffusion method. Results: The results show that out of the ۶۰ samples collected, ۷ samples of Staphylococcus aureus(۱۱.۶۷%) were identified by coagulase test. In this research, all seven samples (۱۰۰%) were sensitive tovancomycin antibiotic and six samples (۸۵.۷۱%) showed intermediate sensitivity to tetracycline. Conclusion: In general, the findings of this research showed that the prevalence of Staphylococcusaureus in samples of raw chicken ready for sale is high. Therefore, in addition to the necessity of hygieneon the part of food suppliers, supervision and appropriate solutions by the officials of the Ministry ofHealth are also very important.
