Ride-Quality Analysis of a Cycling-Trainer Considering Human Biomechanical Characteristics abstract
The main scope of this article is to investigate the ride quality utilizing a cycling-trainer vertical dynamic model. In the proposed platform, a completedynamic model of a cycling-trainer equipped with a suspension system is presented to perform simulation study of vertical vibration transmitted due tothe road roughness. Bond graph approach is utilized to develop the corresponding dynamic model and derive the governing equations of motion. Thecomputer model of the cycling-trainer dynamics is generated employing block-oriented structure of Simulink in MATLAB software. Simulation study isperformed including vertical acceleration analysis to investigate ride quality index. Furthermore, frequency response analysis is carried out utilizingBode diagram of the system under investigation to get better insight into the effect of various factors such as the terrain roughness, seating position,suspension, frame material, and tire stiffness on cycling-trainer’s natural frequency which is one of the most effective parameters to ensure acomfortable ride.
