Abstract:

The Reliable design of a pressurized pipeline requires water hammer consideration in order to prevent possible damage from pressure oscillation due to sudden changes in the fluid momentum. Fluid-structure interaction may play an important role in this phenomenon and should be considered carefully. In this paper, the governing equations of the water hammer with fluid-structure interaction in thin-walled conical-shaped pipes are derived and solved numerically. One benchmark problem was solved for the numerical model verification and another problem was dealt with to investigate the water hammer with fluid-structure interaction in conical pipes. Results showed the significant effects of considering FSI on pressure wave propagation.
