Abstract:
This study employs Landsat-۸ Operational Land Imager (OLI) thermal infraredsatellite data to compareland surface temperature of two cities in Iran: Chabahar and Qom. Images were acquired with minimumcloud cover (<۱۰%) from both dry and rainy seasons between December to August. Imagepreprocessing and rectification using ArcGIS ۱۰.۸ software were used. The shapefiles of Chabahar andQom were used to extract from the full scenes to subset the study area. Thermal band data numberswere converted to Top of Atmospheric Spectral Radiance using radiance rescaling factors. To determinethe density of green on a patch of land, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was calculatedby using red and near-infrared bands i.e. Band ۴ and Band ۵. Land surface emissivity (LSE) was alsocalculated to determine the efficiency of transmitting thermal energy across the surface into theatmosphere.
