Artificial intelligence in Urban Planning

Cities around the world are faced with complex problems due to rapid urbanization and population growth. For handling these circumstances, effective and up-to-date solutions are required that can adapt to the speed of change. Although the human mind is one of the most powerful tools for finding solutions, urban issues require a stronger tool to address them faster. Artificial intelligence is one that assists in resolving urban problems. Even though it has come from computer science, AI has spread throughout all sciences which compete with the human mind. It plays an essential role in computing and optimizing solutions and proposing the best answer to enhance the quality of citizens’ lives. The present essay introduces AI and discusses its applications in urban planning. The ultimate goal is to recognize and define AI as a useful analytical tool that is indispensable for the future life of our cities.
