Abstract:

In this work, Slab method as one of the most frequent exact approaches is used in order to obtain parameters which are determinative in wire drawing process (WDP). ABAQUS software was utilized to simulate the process and compute effective factors such as stresses and energies. The output was then compared the analytical results. The prototype selected to carry out the comparison is Aluminum alloy AA-۵۰۸۳ which its flow stress results determined by an appropriate tensile test was already reported in the literature. In order to reduce the computational cost in finite element simulations, the geometric property of axisymmetric has been used. Finally, the results showed a good agreement between both methods so that the tension and energy differences are more or less ۱۵%. From the stand point of distortion energy, the deviation is gradually increased by growth of cross section reduction of the wire. Whereas there was an irregular trend about the stress values.
