Abstract:

Many studies have been conducted to understand the effect of microstructure on mechanical properties but in the existing literature, surprisingly little attention has been paid to understanding the influence of polymer binders on combustion phenomena. The chemical properties of polymer binders ultimately determine the energy and ballistic behavior of the propellant. This study includes an overview of the effect of various microstructural parameters of binders such as end groups, molecular weight and concentration of cis, trans and vinyl microstructures on propellant combustion properties. The results showed that by increasing the content of cis and trans in the backbone of the prepolymer chain, the stability and decomposition temperature of the composite solid propellant increases. Also, increasing the molecular weight of the binder reduces the effect of end groups on burning rate
