Abstract:

One of the fundamental objectives of materials science and engineering is the design of better materials. There is a new trend of utilizing machine learning methods for designing better materials. The very first step in creating a machine learning model is to compile a good dataset containing valid data, which is usually from simulations. Usually, a number of different simulations from different fields are performed consecutively in what is called a data pipeline, and this process of data generation is repeated hundreds of times. The sheer number of simulations calls for automation to ensure feasibility and reproducibility, save time, and reduce errors. This paper describes the new free and open-source software VCAMS that helps create models as part of a data pipeline. First, the modeling philosophy is explained, afterwards the GUI and scripting interface are introduced and finally two case studies are presented.
