Challenges and opportunities for Improvement and Uprating of a 56.25 MVA SynchronousGenerator abstract

Different aspects should be considered in design oflarge synchronous generators. Uprating of largesynchronous generators can be achieved using basicchanges in basic geometries and materials. While thesechanges can be cost effective, performanceimprovement will be considerable. This paperinvestigates uprating of a 56.25 MVA largesynchronous generator. Different methods will beexamined for uprating of large synchronous generators.Based on the limitations in this generator, the bestmethod for uprating will be selected. The results showthat some changes in geometry of this generator canincrease the output power up to 62.5 MVA.
