Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of carbon nanotubes (CNT) types used in preformedpolyacrylamide particle gels (PPG) on the rate of water shut-off from oil wells with high water production. Swellingratio of pure polymer without nanofiller (PPG) and polymer with carbon nanotube (N-PPG) and polymer with acidiccarbon nanotube (NC-PPG) in distilled water and brine has been studied. In order to verify the stability of the gels allsamples under study were verified by tests of swell and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that inN-PPG and NC-PPG, the CNT dispersed well in the PPG. The swelling ratio among all samples under studydecreases in the following order: N-PPG, NC-PPG, PPG. TGA results show that the thermal stability of all samplesunder study decreases in the following order: NC-PPG, N-PPG, PPG. UV-VIS results also further support the abovementioned results. As a final conclusion N-PPG and NC-PPG are very suitable candidates for conformance controlin high water production Oil and Gas wells.
