Abstract:

Several oxygen limiting factors, such as flooding, waterlogging, and partial or full submergence are detrimental for normal growth and development of plants. Plants try to adapt to these unfavorable conditions by using several strategies, such as energy storage, elongation of petioles or internodes, maintaining the water level by regulating stomatal movements, forming adventitious roots, developing aerenchyma, etc. Crop plants simultaneously activate various biochemical reactions, molecular and signaling pathways, and physiological processes to cope with these oxygen-limiting conditions.
