Abstract:

In this paper, tensile and compressive characteristics of re-entrant, arrow-head and two hybrid auxetic sandwich panels are investigated. Cores of the sandwich panels are very important because they have a significant effect on mechanical behavior of sandwich panels. Using finite element method, the tensile and compressive behavior of four sandwich panels is simulated. Tensile modulus, tensile strength, compressive modulus, and compressive strength of sandwich panels are calculated. It is found that by changing core topology of sandwich panels, different mechanical performances can be obtained. It is also found that re-entrant panels have better tensile and compressive behavior. Additionally, it is observed that the mechanical properties of arrow-head cores can be improved by combining them with re-entrant cores.
