Pleasant and unpleasant experiences of managing natural childbirth skill abstract

Introduction: Considering the importance of midwifery education in promoting the health of the society, efforts to improve the quality of education in this field, especially midwifery clinical education, seem necessary, and in order to create this improvement, examining the experiences of students and their opinions can be very helpful and also Since childbirth is a complex and stressful phenomenon for midwifery students and because of the profound effects that students' first experiences will have on their later skills and perspectives, Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of explaining the pleasant and unpleasant experiences of managing natural childbirth skill among midwifery students.Methods: This research has been conducted with qualitative approach through content analysis method. The participants were comprised of seventeen midwifery students in Isfahan University of medical sciences in 2022. Semi-structured interviews about Pleasant and unpleasant experiences of managing natural childbirth skill were used for data collection. Data obtained from interviews with content analysis.Results: The analysis identified three categories: The presence of the effective instructor (sub- categories: Teacher's personality and behavioral characteristics, sufficient scientific and practical ability), environment (Crowded physical space, improper communication of personnel, birth process), individual characteristics (Having courage, having motivation, having practical preparation before entering the internship).Conclusion: The participants in this study emphasized the key and effective role of the clinical instructor in the pleasant experience of childbirth skills. They showed that the instructor can play an effective and useful role in clinical learning by providing new information, full support for students and appropriate feedback, as well as the presence of personality traits such as courage. In addition, the participants also mentioned the important role of the environment as well as the personal characteristics of the student in how they experience childbirth.
