Application of Internet of Things (IoT) in green and smart buildings

The Construction industry regardless of its massive effect on the country’s economy, has always been struggling with serious challenges that hinder not only the comfort of human life but also experience a serious threat to the environment. Due to the substantial role of buildings in the consumption of energy, it estimates that construction sections have responsible for wasting around ۴۰% of non-renewable natural sources. Therefore, innovative implementations and concepts such as green and smart buildings have emerged. Green building, considered as an environmentally friendly method to avoid using conventional materials and enhance the efficiency of building performance now associates with an intelligence grid to coordinate different components of buildings such as ventilation systems, electrical systems, light, security and, etc. Thanks to the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) and its application in modern buildings, we hope that the integration of information technology and the construction industry would enhance the performance and the function of buildings in variety of aspects like efficiency in consumption, promote human comfort condition and increase environment life cycle and sustainable development. This research aims at a bibliometric review through the application of the Internet of Things in both Smart and Green buildings between the time scale of ۲۰۱۷ to ۲۰۲۲, evaluating different perspectives, results and providing a research gap found in the literature.
