Abstract:

Common transportation terminals are points of the transportation network where the interchange of cargo and passengers, in which the possibility of reaching all travel destinations from all travel origins is provided by them. These terminals are the principal nodes of the multimodal transportation network. The modes of transportation (road, rail, air, and sea) alone are not able to fully cover the travel demand and the movement of cargo and passengers in all locations; And they need complementary elements to achieve this purpose. Also, in situations where the travel selection criterion by network users is different; Due to the impossibility of providing favorable conditions, there is a drop in demand and loss of service supply. If the design of the transportation network is based on common transportation terminals; We can expect the appropriate response from the network, the supply of transport services according to the demand, the coverage of maximum travel destinations, and the least competition between lines, systems, and modes of transportation in order to provide combined transportation services to achieve transportation services, and it was delivered door-to-door. This article focuses on the element of the terminal and its role in the interchange of cargo and passengers between modes of transportation, identification, and classification of common transportation terminals, its role and function in the network, and conditions for optimal design of the combined transportation network. The title of the output of the studies is provided.
