Abstract:
Antecedence earthquake reports demonstrate that when earthquakes occur in succession, sandy grounds can liquefy more than once (reliquefaction). In this study, twelve undrained cyclic triaxial tests were performed, with three different densities and four cyclic stress ratios to assess the reliquefaction resistance of saturated sand. In each test, the sample reconsolidated after the first liquefaction and then liquefied for the second time. Most of the test results showed that despite an increase in relative density during the reconsolidation, the reliquefaction resistance decreased due to the creation of anisotropy in the sample. However, in a few tests, the impact of anisotropy is not significant because of the low cyclic stress ratio during loading.
