The Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland body of water, is facing numerous environmental challenges,including contamination by heavy metals such as mercury and arsenic. In this paper, we review the sourcesof mercury and arsenic in the South Caspian Sea, the environmental impacts of their presence, and theassociated health risks for local populations. We highlight the need for further research and coordinatedefforts to reduce pollution and protect the health of both the environment and human populations.
