Abstract:

Recently, the demand of structural safety subjected to impact loading has been escalated. As a consequence, various studies for predicting the behavior of structures under impact loading have been conducted. In thispaper, transverse and longitudinal drop weight impact test on a beam has been analyzed. Consideration isgiven to vibration response of the beams with rectangular, circular and I-beam cross sections. Differentboundary conditions (i.e. Fixed-Fixed, Fixed-Free, Fixed-Revolute, Revolute-Fixed, Revolute-Revolute,Revolute-Free, Translational-Free and Translational-Translational joints) has come under theoretical andsimulation scrutiny and results have been discussed. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is cogitated and the firstelement’s strain under the impact load is investigated. Contrary to engineering thoughts, Revolute-Fixedboundary condition (which the drop weight strikes the element near to the fixed support) has the least strain. Also, I-beam has the most strain and vibrates as much. This research allows engineers to construct the safestbeam with the most efficient boundary conditions under impact loads
