Abstract:

The electrical discharge machining process is one of the most important and suitable processes formachining of hard and brittle metals such as superalloys. This process, which is part of thethermoelectrical machining process, is capable of machining complex geometries on metals. In thisresearch, using Taguchi method and variance analysis (ANOVA), the output parameters of EDMprocess on Inconel ۶۹۰ superalloy have been optimized. Input factors in this study include dischargecurrent, pulse duration, gap voltage and duty factor as well as output factors of the process, includingthe material removal rate, surface roughness and surface microstructure. First, using the Taguchimethod, the optimal arranging of the experiment was determined and then by performing theexperiments and analysis of the variance, the contribution of each input parameter to the output responseof the process was determined and finally the optimal input parameters were introduced. Also, the resultof the optimization of the output factors of the process, including maximum material removal rate,minimum surface roughness and suitable microstructure with minimum surface cracking.
