Reliability Assessment of a New Generation of Fuse Cutouts in Distribution Power System abstract

Improving distribution system reliability with minimizing the total investment costs can be considered as the main issues in optimization of distribution networks. Due to the fact that the protective devices and switches play an important role in the reliability of electrical distribution systemsby minimizing the impact of interruption, This paper presents a new generation of fuse cutouts, which can improve the power system reliability especially for situations where temporary faults are common with less investment and operation costs, compared with conventional fuse cutoutsand even Reclosers. The main advantages of the proposed fuse cutout, which calls Three-Shot Fuse Cutout, are foolproof fault protection and immediately service restoration for temporary faults and low investment cost. In order to verify the advantages of proposed fuse cutout, first, the optimal place of two basic protective equipments, fuse cutouts and Reclosers, in a Tabriz (Iran) distribution power system feeder has been determined, and then the same placement performed considering the proposed Three-Shot fuse cutout. Finally the main reliability indexes and saved costs of the simulated distribution system have been compared.
