Abstract:

Metal complexes exhibit promising potential in medicinal applications, such as cancertreatment [۱]. Metal complexes also play a crucial role in bioinorganic chemistry, particularly inunderstanding metalloprotein function [۲]. In this work, three new metal complexes have beenobtained from the reaction of a new N۱, N۲-bis(۲-aminobenzyl)-N۱, N۲-bis(pyridin-۲-ylmethyl)propane-۱,۲-diamine ligand (L) with Ni(II), Cu(II), and Co(II) ions. To evaluate the biologicalpotential of the ligand and the synthesized metal complexes, their binding behavior with DNA wasstudied by molecular modeling methods. The Molecular docking studies showed that the freeligand and its complexes were bound to the major groove of DNA. The synthesized compoundswere tested for activity against lung carcinoma epithelial cells (A۵۴۹) using the MTT cell viabilityassay. A comparative study of the IC۵۰ values indicated that the Cu(II) complex exhibited thehighest activity, while the Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes showed more potent antiproliferativeactivity than the ligand
