Abstract:

The genus Hypericum is one of the most important medicinal plants that contain ۱۷ species in Iran, three of them are endemics. This paper reports the essential oil composition of eight Hypericum species from Iran. The essential oil analysis of a number of the studied plants has already been reported but their report from Iran may be valuable for scientists.  Samples collected from different places between June and August ۲۰۱۰. The composition of the essential oils from Hypericum was investigated on the flower head. Essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation method and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The essential oil yield and composition in H. androsaemum L.:  oil yields (۰.۱۷%) and major components were longifolene ۱۹.۲%, b-gurjunene ۱۶%, and g-gurjunene ۸.۴%, in  H. apricum kar. & kir. oil yields (۰.۵۰%), and major components were cis-piperitol acetate ۲۴.۳%, p-cymenene ۲۱%  a-pinene ۸.۳%; in H. armenum Jaub. & Spach oil yields (۰.۲۰%) and major components were g-cadinene ۳۰.۶%, longifolene ۱۰.۴%, and E-nerolidol ۷.۴%; in H. asperulum Jaub. & Spach  oil  yields (۰.۰۵%), and major components were a-muurolol ۱۷.۶%, cis-sesquisabienen hydrate ۱۲.۵%, and germacrene B ۹.۸%; in H. hirsutum L. oil yields (۰.۰۵%), and major components were germacrene B ۲۹.۲%, citronellyl propanoate ۷.۹%, and g-gurjunene ۷.۵%; in H.linarioides Bosse  oil yields (۰.۱۵%), and major components were (E, E)-farnesyl acetate ۱۶.۵%, cis-cadinene ether ۱۲.۷%, and ۱-tridecene ۵.۷%; and in  H. tetrapterum Fries oil yields (۰.۰۸%), and major components were  trans-linalool oxide ۲۲.۳%, p-cymenene ۶.۲% and (E, E)-farnesyl acetate ۶%, and in H. vermiculare Boiss. & Hausskn. oil yields (۱.۷۴%), and major components were a-pinene ۶۱%, myrcyne ۶% and E-b-farnesene ۵.۳%.
