Abstract:

Background: According to the reports of World Health Organization, the pace of population ageing is much faster than in the past and in ۲۰۵۰, ۸۰% of older people will be living in low- and middle-income countries. As people get old, physical and mental functions gradually begin to decrease besides WHO discovered that ۶۰–۸۵% of people in the world have sedentary lifestyles, which it leads to one of the most serious community health concerns in western countries. An inactive lifestyle is increasingly the main cause of most chronic diseases. In this vein, The maintenance of high physical function is one of the key factors for successful aging. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of reviewing the effect of aerobic exercise on the quality of life (QoF) in elderlies.Method: The present study was a review article. The process of collecting data was searching keywords: “Quality of life”, “Aerobic exercise”, “Older adults” and “Physical activity” in Persian and Latin sources in databases: “PubMed”. “Google Scholar” and “WHO”. Searched articles from ۲۰۱۴ to ۲۰۲۳ were reviewed. A total of ۱۸۴articles were obtained and finally ۱۰ articles were used to write a review. Results: The results suggest that physical activity (PA) was positively and consistently associated with some QoL domains among older individuals, supporting the notion that promoting PA in the elderly may have an impact beyond physical health. PA can positively effect different aspects of human well-being. Staying physically and mentally active can therefore not only delay the development of some chronic illnesses and disabilities in older adults, but also improve positive psychological characteristics. Conclusion: Aerobic exercise improves Psychological Well-Being, QoL and psychological status. Therefore, Recommending continuous aerobic exercise helps the elderly to improve their quality of life and prevent the complications of aging.
