Abstract:

Among the ancient people, personal hygiene was of particular importance in order to prepare for worship. As Herodotus of Halicarnassus says about the ancient Egyptians, they wear linen clothes that are always clean and washed and they pay particular attention to observing this point. They circumcise themselves for cleanliness. Priests shave their whole bodies so that no lice or any other unclean insect will stick to their bodies while they are in the service of the gods. As among the ancient nations, preparation for worship was considered one of the main goals of observing personal hygiene, in ancient era this issue was also in the focus of attention. The question of the article is how can we interpret personal hygiene of ancient Egyptians via ontology and anthropology?
