Abstract:
Background & Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of diabetes mellitus type ۱ on verbal memory and spatial memory in adolescents. Materials & Methods: Using a suitable sampling method, ۴۰ adolescents with diabetes type ۱ were selected from members of the Iranian Association for Diabetes. Additionally, using a random sampling method, ۴۰ students from the Tehran area were selected as a control group. Subjects were tested with a verbal auditory test for verbal memory evaluation and the Curci blocks for spatial memory assessment. Multiple variance analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Verbal memory results showed a significant difference between the two groups (p<۰.۰۰۱). Thus, the function of people with diabetes in verbal memory was weaker than that of healthy people. The effect of diabetes on spatial memory was also significant (p<۰.۰۰۱). Conclusion: The results showed that diabetes type ۱ causes a decrease in verbal memory function. Additionally, diabetes mellitus has an effect on spatial memory.
