Abstract:

Global optimization is a challenging issue with affordable practical merits in various fields including operations research. Application of meta-heuristics for such a field is investigated by many researchers due to complex nature of such constrained problems. In this regard, providing proper diversity in the population of search agents is targeted here. An attractive-repulsive variant of charged system search, is developed based on its special switching rules and artificial force definitions. The pressure vessel design is treated as a mixed discrete-continuous benchmark problem. It is solved by several runs of both the standard and newly developed variants of the charged system search to evaluate effectiveness of the proposed enhancement via performance measures.
